Instructions

    Frame Construction

  1. Cut all wood to size according to the cut list.
  2. Double-check your measurements!
  3. Sketch a plan if you need to adapt to your space.
  4. Build the bottom shelf:
  5. Attach 32″ braces (place 13″ inside from the edges).
  6. Ensure the frame is square and level.
  7. Assemble the other two shelves:
  8. Use the same method to build two more frames for the upper shelves.
  9. Create barrel cradles:
  10. Place a barrel on the bottom shelf.
  11. Add 29″ angled supports and 10″ cradle boards to snugly fit the barrel.
  12. Secure with screws after drilling pilot holes.
  13. Attach legs:
  14. Secure the 84″ legs to the bottom shelf.
  15. Stack and attach the second and third shelves to the legs.
  16. Space shelves 24½” apart for proper drum fit.
  17. Finalize frame assembly:
  18. Stand the rack upright.
  19. Slide drums into their cradles to confirm the fit.

Plumbing the Barrels

  1. Prepare the drums:
  2. Install bung caps on each drum.
  3. Attach a spigot to the bottom drum bung cap.
  4. Connect the barrels:
  5. Add adapters and a short PVC pipe section (2″) to other bung caps.
  6. Use 90° PVC elbows to connect barrels in series with ¾” PVC pipe.
  7. Add overflow pipe:
  8. Attach a tee to the top drum.
  9. Connect a short PVC section from the tee to a 90° elbow.
  10. Run a pipe from the elbow to the ground as an overflow outlet.
  11. Connect to the gutter system:
  12. Use 1″ PVC pipe with 45° elbows to route water from the gutter to the top drum.

Optional Modifications

  • Use clear hoses for water-level visibility instead of PVC pipes.
  • Install mesh filters on the inlet to block debris (check and clean regularly).
  • Consider a continuous pipe connection from the lowest bung cap to the highest bung cap for better airflow.
