Agave Apple Butter

Agave Apple Butter

Agave Apple Butter is a naturally sweetened, spiced fruit spread perfect for toast, pastries, or as a flavorful addition to recipes. Slow-cooked for a rich, caramelized depth of flavor, it’s a healthier alternative to traditional apple butter thanks to the use of agave syrup.

Ingredients

  • 10 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and finely chopped
  • 2 cups agave syrup
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Mix the Spices: In a bowl, combine agave syrup, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Pour this mixture over the apples and mix well to coat evenly.
  • Cook on High: Cover and cook the apple mixture for 1 hour on high heat.
  • Slow Cook on Low: Reduce the heat to low and cook for 8–9 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mixture becomes thick and dark brown.
  • Final Thickening: Remove the cover and continue cooking on low for an additional hour to evaporate excess moisture.
  • Store: Transfer the apple butter to airtight containers. Refrigerate or freeze as desired. Yields approximately three 10-ounce containers.
